McLaren Back in Business!

May 12th, 2008

Turkish PodiumAs usual, the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul proved to be an excellent race. There was plenty of action throughout the race and not just the normal midfield action.

Qualifying was good, with Kovalainen putting in a great performance for his first front row position. Massa’s pole was to be expected, but Raikkonen’s performance was not. He did not seem as comfortable with the car as Massa so I suspect he had a poor setup. Hamilton also seemed highly disappointed with his 3rd place. At the time I couldn’t figure it out why he would be, but it all became apparent in the race. Read the rest of this entry »

66 Parade Laps - Not this time!

April 28th, 2008

Kovalainen\'s Big CrashThe Spanish Grand Prix is rarely interesting and usually tends to be, as someone on Neowin.net put it, 66 parade laps. However this year it was totally different.

Qualifying was extremely close, with there only being about 0.2 seconds between pole and fifth, and Alonso qualifying in a surprising 2nd. This was already going to make for an interesting race, as odds were that the Renault was extremely light and running a different strategy to most.

Once again the strength of a modern Formula 1 car came through, with Heikki coming out in one piece. Read the rest of this entry »

Massa redeemed at Bahrain?

April 9th, 2008

Bahrain - PodiumIt was really no surprise to see Massa win at Bahrain. Ferrari were dominant at Bahrain and Raikkonen seemed to be suffering from a lack of pace, most likely the result of a poor setup choice. Before Bahrain, Massa was seen as a complete fool, not worthy of a drive at Force India, let alone Ferrari. After Bahrain, it seems many people think he has redeemed himself for his mistakes, but I disagree. Read the rest of this entry »

Pole on Pole - Bahrain Qualifying

April 5th, 2008

Bahrain - KubicaBahrain qualifying was much better than Malaysia and I think we will have a good race tomorrow. Without a doubt, the surprise at Bahrain was Kubica’s pole position!

It was a great lap from Kubica and a well deserved first pole position for both Kubica and BMW. Massa dominated the first two sessions which made it even more surprising. Both Hamilton and Raikkonen seemed a bit off the pace in the first two sessions, but seemed better in the final shoot-out. Read the rest of this entry »

Malaysian Grand Prix

March 26th, 2008

Malaysia wasn’t a patch on the mayhem of Australia, and all in all, pretty damn boring. There are some interesting points though, least of all the performance of Toyota and BMW. Here is my team-by-team analysis on who I think is where after the Malaysian Grand Prix. Read the rest of this entry »
